Remember to enable your antivirus program when you are finished with this task.
If you are still having problems accessing Updates and you are running Windows 7 you can run the update troubleshooter by clicking on Start
on the main toolbar and then choose Control Panel
. Enter troubleshooter
in the search box and then choose Troubleshooting
. Click on Fix problems with Windows Update
under System Security and then enter your password if you are prompted to do so. The troubleshooter will check your Internet connectivity and ensure that Windows Update services are operating properly.
You can also check to ensure that the appropriate services are running in the Services Management Tool. If one or all of them are disabled this could prevent you from accessing the Windows Update website. Click on Start
on the main toolbar and then enter services.msc
in the Start Search box. When the Services Management Tool opens you should locate each of the following services in the list, double click, and then check to see if they are enabled: Windows Update, Automatic Service, Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS), and Cryptographic Services

. If any of these services are disabled click on Start
to enable the service and then click on OK
. Try accessing the Windows Update website again.
