After you install updates for Windows Vista and you restart your PC you receive this error message which prevents you from installing some of the updates. (BITS)
The error is caused as a result of files which have become corrupt in the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS). The corrupt files prevent Windows Services from running the host process which does not allow BITS to transmit files when you try to install updates. There are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.
You can try to fix the error by activating the View Hidden Files Option. To do this click on Start
on the main toolbar and then choose Control Panel
and click on Folder Options
. When the window opens click on View
and then choose Show hidden files and folders
and then click OK
. Next it is necessary to delete files from the Downloader Folder. Click on Start
and enter \Programdata\Microsoft\network\downloader
in the Start Search box and press the Enter
key. When the new window appears choose Qmgr0.dat
Qmgr.Try to install Windows Updates again.
Microsoft also has an update to assist with the error. The update provides a BITS Repair tool which will help to repair the corrupt files and enable BITS so you can transfer files for installing updates.
