The error is caused by a file that is corrupt or broken in the Microsoft Office Source Engine which is also the Ose.exe file. It can also be caused when the Ose.exe file is deactivated. You can solve the error problem by conducting a check of the service for Microsoft Office Source Engine or by taking the steps necessary to repair the corrupted file.

To check to see if the Office Source Engine Source is deactivated click on Start on your main toolbar and then choose Run from the menu. When the Command Prompt opens enter services.msc and then press the Enterkey. When the window opens that displays a services list choose Office Source Engine and then check to see if the service is disabled by checkingStartup Type. If it indicates the service is disabled change it to Manual and then click on OK. Try to install the updates again.

If you are still experiencing problems installing updates you can try to repair the corrupt Ose.exe file. You will need to obtain a new file by copying it from the Office 2003 disk. Find out where the file is located on your PC by following the path from Program Files. You can do this by clicking on theC Drivein My Computer. Choose the Common Filesfolder and then the Microsoft Sharedfolder. Click on the Source Engine folder and find the file. The path should now look something like this: Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Source Engine\. Proceed to insert the Office 2003 disk, right click on Start and then choose Explore. Find the Filesfolder and then the Setup folder on the CD disk and then right click on the Ose.exefile and choose Copy.Go back and find the Source Engine folder on your PC, right click, and choose Paste. Click on Yes to replace the corrupt Ose.exe file. Try installing updates again.
