The Problem

When a program that is running on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer, a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, or a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer uses the NetUserGetLocalGroups function to query Active Directory in another domain, and the user name is in the Domain Name\User Name format, error 1722 may occur. 1722 This problem may occur if NetBIOS over TCP/IP is disabled on the computer, or if Netbios Name resolution is not working because the comuter has no WINS servers defined or there are missing entries in the LMHOSTS file.

Solution

Note This issue has been resolved in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and in Windows Server 2000 Service Pack (SP4) Rollup 1. To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows Server 2003. To resolve this problem, obtain Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4. To work around this problem, enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. To do this, click Start, and then click Control Panel. Double-click Network Connections. Double-click the Local Area Connection to be configured, and then click Properties. In the list of components, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties. Click Advanced, and then click the WINS tab. Click Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, and then click OK.
