Repairing the 'code 30' problem

Resource conflicts are not as common as they used to be, but they can still cause problems for computer users. The Windows error 30 is a common resource error that people get when trying to use a piece of hardware. To resolve this issue requires a more advanced approach than many other Windows system errors. Essentially, your computer allocates certain “channels” to devices to use to get access to your system board. These channels cannot be contended for by multiple devices at the same time. To resolve this issue, you will have to find out which device is causing the conflict and remove it.

To find out which device is contending for the channel that your new device wants to use, requires a comfort level with changing system settings in Windows. Go to Device manager and click on the Resources tab. This tab will show you the resource channels that this device uses. At the bottom of the dialog box, there will be conflicting device list. This will tell you which device is conflicting and causing the error message.

Once you know what the conflicting device is, you will need to remove it. Go to the Device Manager, select the conflicting device and choose Remove. Once the device is removed, shut your computer down and disconnect the device. Start your computer back up and try to use your new device. You should now be able to use the device without any further displays of Windows error code 30.
