When you try to start up games in your Play Station Portable you receive error 80020148 with a message that states the game could not be started. Regardless of the game you are trying to load you still receive this message.

This type of error code is not as big a problem as some of the error code messages you may have experienced in the past. The message is caused by outdated firmware that is being used on your Play Station Portable. All you need to do is log onto the Play Station Portable website to obtain a new version of firmware and then download it to your PC. Plug your Play Station Portable into your PC
via the USB port with the cord which is included with your PSP. Once you are connected simply use the left arrow key to activate the Settings
feature and then press X
. When you see the list choose USB Connection
to open the Play Station Portable window on your PC’s Desktop. When the window opens choose View all files and folders
and then double click on PSP
, choose Games
, and then choose Update
. Find the firmware update which you downloaded to the desktop of your PC and then drag it to the Update
Remove your Play Station Portable from your PC and then press the right arrow key on your PSP until you see the Games
icon. Choose PSP Update
from the list and you will be walked through a set of instructions. Restart your Play Station Portable to activate the new version of the firmware. Try loading a game to ensure you do not receive the error message and you should be able to play all of your games without the error 80020148 code.
