What the experts recommended when Windows code 80072ee7 is displayed
This error prevents you from signing in to Windows Messenger and can be caused by a number of issues some of which may include incorrect time and date settings on your PC, corrupt files, firewall settings, an error in the Messenger installation, or an enabled proxy server in Internet explorer or Messenger.
Initially you should check the time and date settings on your PC by clicking on the time in the lower right hand corner of your screen.
If the time and date settings are correct you can try to re-register the softpub.dll file which may have become corrupt. You can do this by clicking on Start
on the main toolbar and then choosing Run
from the menu. If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you will use the Start Search box. Proceed to enter regsvr32 softpub.dll
in the command prompt and then press the Enter
key. Try signing in to Windows Messenger again.
If you are still receiving the error click on Internet Explorer to open the browser window and then choose Tools
from the main toolbar and then click on Internet Options
. When the Internet Options window opens choose Connections
and then click on Local Area Network Settings
. Remove the check mark from Use a proxy server for your LAN
and then check to ensure that there is a check mark in the box next to Automatically Detect Settings
. When you are finished click OK
and try to sign in to Windows Messenger.
You can also try to troubleshoot the issue by disabling the third party firewall you may be using. If you are using Windows firewall you can disable it temporarily by clicking on Start
on the main toolbar and then choose Run
from the menu. When the command prompt appears enter firewall.cpl
and then press the Enter
key. When the new window opens choose General
and check to ensure that the radio button next to Off
is selected and then click on OK
. Try to sign in to Windows Messenger again and remember to enable the firewall again so your PC is not vulnerable.
