What happens

When your computer is trying to access a network resource, either automatically or through a direct command from you, and the network adapter is having hardware issues and unable to connect successfully, you will see error code 57 displayed.

Do this if you see Windows Hardware code 57

Many times this error is the direct result of a network cable being unplugged. Here are the steps that you should take to resolve the Windows error code 57.

  • Double-check the network cable and make sure that it is completely plugged into your computer’s Ethernet port.
  • Follow the network cable to the wall or device that it plugs into and make sure that it is securely plugged in.
  • Try to connect to the requested network resource again and see if the error message still appears.

At this point the problem may be resolved. Many common networking errors are the result of a simple network cable coming loose or unplugged. It is very common for a network cable to become unseated during some type of physical movement and causing a lack of network connectivity. However, if you get Windows error code 57 again, try the following steps:

  • Obtain a network cable that you know is in proper working condition.
  • Disconnect your current network cable from the PC and from the wall jack.
  • Connect the new network cable to the PC port and the wall jack.
  • Try to connect to the network resource again.

If you were able to connect using a new network cable, then the old cable is damaged and you will either need to keep using the working cable or get a new one to use permanently. A damaged network cable is going to prevent your PC from hitting the network. Cables can easily become damaged, so trying a replacement cable is always a good early step to take.

If these fixes do not resolve the Windows error code 57 for you, contact a systems administrator or PC specialist to look at your computer and the network connections.
