Windows error code 45 occurs when the operating system (Windows) is unable to communicate with the peripheral device. Connectivity to the device could be interrupted or disabled and Windows displays this error message to let you know that there is a problem with the hardware.
Of all the Windows error codes you can endeavor to fix, none are quite so easy to resolve as error code 45. This error message is not so much a problem as it is a way to let you know that a device is disconnected. The fix for the situation is really just a matter of reconnecting the device.
If you are trying to connect to a device, like a USB printer, make sure that the USB cable is securely seated to the USB port on your computer. Then check to see if the USB cable is securely attached to the printer. It’s a good idea to disconnect the cable and reconnect while you are checking. After you have reseated the cables, power cycle the device and your computer. When everything is back up and running, you should be able to connect to the printer.
If these steps do not work, the cord or port connecting the computer to the device may be bad. Try using a different USB cable that is known to be good to see if you can establish a connection. If you are able to, you know that the USB cable is bad and needs to be replaced. If you suspect that the port on your PC is bad, try to connect to the device using a different USB port.
If you are getting this error message about a piece of equipment that you have removed, go to Device Manager, select the device and choose Remove or Uninstall, then restart your computer.
