If you try to use a device that is currently installed on your computer and that device is competing for a resource that is already in use, you will see this error on your screen. The device driver will need to be assigned to a unique computer resource.
To resolve the Windows error code 6, you should start off by doing a complete shut down of your system. Close any open programs, applications and files and go to Start and choose Shut Down. There is no definite period of time that the computer has to be off for, but many expert technicians say to let the computer stay powered off for at least 90 seconds. You can leave the computer powered down for as long as you want.
Restart the computer and give it ample time to go through its complete start-up routine. Make sure that the computer has loaded all of the settings that it typically loads before moving on to the next step.
