About the Error
If you are running Microsoft Windows Defender, you may get this error code, with a message that says either “application failed to initialize” or “The system license has expired. Your logon request is denied.” This error is common when Defender is being updated.

To fix the problem, set the Windows Defender service to Automatic, instead of Disabled or Manual. Do this by finding Services in the Program list, double-clicking the Windows Defender service, and then clicking Automatic inside the Startup type box. This may resolve the issue. If it does not resolve the issue, the uninstall and subsequently re-install Windows Defender.
If the issue is still not resolved, uninstall Windows Defender again, and use the Windows Installer CleanUp utility, and then reinstall Windows Defender again.
