About the Error
This error code may appear after you download an update from Windows Update, Microsoft Update, or Windows Server Update Services. After you download the update, the update may fail and you will see a red “X” next to the update. Click on the red “X” to view the exact error message.
What I did to get rid of X
This error may occur when the update you are attempting to launch has some files missing. The update may have downloaded and extracted correctly, but it will fail because of the missing file(s).
To fix the problem, delete the entire directory that was created during the download, and remove all files. Go back to the update location. You will have two options: “Fix it for me”, and “Let me fix it myself”. The easiest approach is to simply click the “Fix it” button, click Run in the File Download dialog box, and then follow the steps presented by the Fix It wizard. When running the wizard, there will be two modes: Default, or Aggressive. Run Fix It in Default mode first to see if it resolves the problem. If not, then attempt to run the wizard again in Aggressive mode.
