How I solved the 'code 80048051' error

This is a common error that occurs as the result of problems with the Visual themes configuration or the setting in Internet Explorer. There are several troubleshooting strategies you can try to solve the error problem.

The first method involves disabling the compatibility mode for Visual themes which can prevent you from signing in to Messenger. Click on Start on the main toolbar and then choose My Computer from the menu. When the new window opens double click on >strong>C Drive and then choose the Program Files folder. When you open the Program Files folder double click on Windows Live and then choose Messenger. Find the msnmsgr.exe file and then right click on the file and choose Properties from the menu. Click on Compatibility and then remove the check mark from the box next to Disable visual themes and click OK. Try to sign in to Windows Live Messenger again.

If you are still having trouble signing in to Messenger open Internet Explorer and then click on File on the main toolbar of your browser. Look for Offline Mode on the menu and if there is a check mark next to the option click to remove it. Try to sign in to Windows Live Messenger again.

If you are still receiving the error message the problem may be with settings in Windows Explorer. Click on Start on the main toolbar and then choose Run and enter explorer and then press the Enter key. When the new window opens, click on Tools and then choose Folder Options if you are using Windows XP. If you are running Vista or Windows 7 choose Organize and then click on Folder and Search Options. Click on the View tab and then navigate to Advanced Settings. Scroll down to Hidden Files and Folders and then click on Show hidden files and folders and remove the check mark in the box next to Hide extensions for known file types. Try to sign in to Windows Live Messenger again.
